Overview and Key Responsibilities

This position is located at the Oak Creek, Wisconsin plant, one of the largest coatings manufacturing plants in the world. 

The Process Engineer reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for managing 1-2 resin reactor systems driving cost control, efficiency, batch quality, and asset utilization.  As a leader in the organization, the Process Engineer must maintain a safe work environment and nurture a safety conscious work group.

Within the first six months s/he must be able to quickly learn the operation, including products and chemistry, processes, equipment and customers.  A key focus of this role is being able to identify problems, implement solutions and seek out continuous improvement.

S/he will be working with a successful team of resin engineers and this is an excellent opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of resin reactor systems and chemistry, reactor optimization, process problem-solving and working effectively with other teams.

Principle accountabilities include:

  • Function as a technical consultant on resin related issues.  Interact with other locations, technical departments, plant engineer, EHS, operations planning, and quality assurance.
  • Develop procedures to ensure the safe and efficient production of resins. 
  • Monitor and improve existing methods and procedures.
  • Improve process safety management systems.
  • Provide technical support for production operators, including off-shifts and weekends.
  • Work effectively with operators, supervisors, mechanics, and contractors on a daily basis – solid floor skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • At least 1 year (including any internships) of process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Required Qualifications)

  • B.S in Chemical Engineering
  • Resin/chemical manufacturing experience.

Functional and Technical Skills

  • Process Safety Management
  • Sigma Logic preferred
