Maintenance Worker I

The United City of Yorkville is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Maintenance Worker I in the City's Parks Department.

The primary duties of this entry level position include ball field preparation, turf maintenance, and the beautification of each site. This person will also work on park projects such as the building and construction of the park sites and their amenities. This position will be required to work after hours and weekend shifts. This position works with the Public Works department on an as needed or emergency basis. In the winter season, snow plowing duties during and after normal working hours is required. Small engine and two cycle repair skills are a plus.

The Maintenance Worker I also performs a variety of tasks using manual labor and operates one or more types of equipment including wing style mowers, zero turn mowers, skid steer tractors, ball fields groomers, tractors with attachments, CDL type trucks, string trimmers, chain saws, walk behind paint sprayers, sod stripper, power hedgers, and others. The work often requires extensive physical strength and endurance including the ability to stand, bend, pull, push, kneel, regularly lift more than 75 pounds at any time, and to withstand exposure to the elements. This person is expected to work outside in all conditions.

Three to five years of park experience or relevant related field experience is preferred. The qualified applicant should hold a class B CDL (or required to obtain within 6 months of hire) with air brake endorsement and be willing to obtain a USDA operator pesticide license within 12 months of hire. Mechanical and carpentry skills are a plus. Must be a self starter and work well with others. Excellent customer service skills and a high school diploma or equivalent are required.

Salary range is $39,352 - $52,198 with starting salary depending on qualifications and experience.
