Procurement Specialist

DU-COMM is a large consolidated public safety communications center in Illinois and currently serves forty-four (44) member agencies and over 850,000 residents in DuPage and neighboring counties.  DU-COMM receives requests for Police, Fire, and EMS via 9-1-1 and non-emergency lines.  DU-COMM has a staff of 119 and employs 87 full-time 9-1-1 Telecommunicators. The FYE2020 budget is $16.9 million.

The Procurement Specialist works under the direction of the Deputy Director Support Services and acts as liaison between vendors, Support Services staff, and other departments within DU-COMM for planning and purchasing needs of the Support Services team.

The primary responsibility of the Procurement Specialist is to serve as the purchasing agent for the Support Services Department. This position will follow all fiscal and purchasing policies including obtaining competitive quotes, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and formal bid processes.  

Essential functions include, but not limited to: preparing purchase orders (POs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and formal bids; assisting in asset management; ordering parts and equipment; managing inventory control; and paperwork compliance.  Refer to the Procurement Specialist job description for other essential functions and requirements for this full-time position.

Candidates must have two (2) years’ experience in the procurement of supplies, materials, and equipment along with knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for accounting/finance.  A high school diploma or equivalent is required. 

A strong candidate will also have municipal, county, or local government experience. Post-secondary degree in finance, public safety, or related field desirable.
