Data Network Engineer

Responsibilities

Data Network Engineer needed for the operation of large Wide Area and Local Area IP Networks, which are being built on a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS).

This position will be responsible for supporting the four very large IPv4 & IPv6 Networks based in the VZW defined Midwest Area: WDN (Wireless Data Network), WVN (Wireless Voice Network), EDN (Engineering Data Network) and the IT (Information Technology) Networks.

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop network MOPs, project plans, task lists, procedures, and network diagram documentation necessary for the successful deployment.
  • Configure and support IP routers, Ethernet switches, MPLS switches, and some legacy ATM equipment which will need to be configured to meet customer, network capacity and project demands.
  • Present design input, implement hardware changes and upgrade, and provide extensive technical support and documentation for this LAN/WAN network.
  • Audit network elements for alarming, configuration inconsistencies and optimization.
  • As internetworking issues are discovered, proactively offer guidance to Operations team to resolve these issues.
  • Understand SLA measurement and able to meet or exceed established expectation of SLA metrics.
  • Work closely with directly reported manager to assist in managing budget forecast, project funding, PO issuing, hardware procurement procedure, as well as identify any off-track deliverables and leverage project management knowledge to develop an action plan to address them.
  • Collaborate with HQ planner and network design in order to establish and develop project framework and manage the tracking of interdependencies within or across projects.
  • Participate or Lead in developing mechanisms for establishing, monitoring and integrating project elements, tracking, timelines and communications in ensuring the target of project requirement is satisfied.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • CCNA or JNCPIA. CCNP or JNCIS preferred.
  • Accountable and able to construct carrier grade provider networks from scratch, including designing IP subnet assignments, VLANs, routing tables, providing Layer 2 and Layer 3 end-to-end connectivity, as well as load balancing traffic across redundant facilities.
  • 3+ years hands-on experience configuring routers, switches related network equipment. Preferably: Cisco Carrier Routing Systems (CRS), Cisco 12K, 10K, 3945, Nexus 7K, 7200XVR; Juniper MX-480, MX-960, F5 Load Balancers. Operating Systems: IOS, XR-IOS, NX-OS, JunOS.
  • 4+ years experience in data networking and telecommunications, including working knowledge of TCP/IP (IPv4). Exposure to IPv6 routing preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in IPV4 addressing and sub-netting, OSPF, BGP, Ethernet VLANs, MPLS, DS0 through OC-48 circuits, CSU/DSUs, standard telephony/Ethernet cabling plants.
  • Solid understanding of Networking specific technologies: IPV6, L2VPN, L3VPN, OSPFv3, MPBGP, QOS/Traffic Engineering, MPLS (LDP & TDP), inter-AS MPLS, and MVPN.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and troubleshooting in a complex large-scale network environment as well as well-versed in network configuration.
  • Excellent PC skills on Windows, MS Office, Project, and Visio.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and measurable successes.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proactively build collaborative relationships with VZWs operating area and region teams that foster positive results and relationship strength over time.
  • Demonstrate customer sensitivity and motivate desired behaviors through timely, effective and clear oral and written communication.
  • Fast-learner and driven to expand network knowledge and skill on existing and emerging technologies.
