The City of Sandwich is accepting applications to hire a full-time employee to work as a Wastewater Operator in the Public Works Department. Under the supervision of the Class 1 Wastewater Superintendent, this employee will operate wastewater treatment plant equipment, perform daily sampling and testing, record and document the results of the sampling and testing, maintain and inspect the wastewater collection system, maintain and inspect the wastewater treatment plant (building, equipment, and grounds), respond to wastewater treatment plant alarms and emergency call-outs, and will assist with regulatory compliance of the wastewater treatment plant and collection system.

Applicants shall possess a Class 4 (or higher) IEPA Wastewater Treatment Works Operator Certification and a valid Illinois driver's license at the time of application. The applicant shall also have or possess the ability to acquire a Class B Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of the date of hire. The nature of the municipal work requires that the employee be capable of working outdoors year-round in harsh conditions, be capable of physically demanding work to include bending, heavy lifting, climbing, driving, operating construction tools, machinery and equipment, and be capable of reporting for duty when needed during emergencies, after regular hours, on weekends, and on holidays.

The starting rate of pay for this position will be dependent upon qualifications. The benefits of this position include health, dental, and vision coverage, participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, and paid time off (holidays, vacation, personal, sick).
