Goal of the Project: The VISTA Capacity building consultant will work with five to ten
network partners to improve resources and systems used by network partners to
distribute food, ensure organizational structure and stability, and increase opportunities
to connect their clients to other resources to help them toward a goal of self-sufficiency.
Objective of the Assignment (Period of Performance: Ongoing)
- Conduct capacity building assessment of network partners in selected counties.
- Create plan to help each network partner achieve identified goals and increase capacity.
- Work individually with partners
applying tools to assist with volunteer development, Board development, fundraising and marketing.
- Develop Capacity Building Catalog
Member Activity: Step 1: Work with Food Bank staff to identify member agencies in Winnebago County for the project using PRAN and meal measurement data. Step 2: Conduct introductory meetings with Food Bank Area Representative and lead staff/volunteer at sites to establish goals and time frame for project. Step 3: Complete assessments using capacity building assessment tool provided by the Food Bank.
Member Activity: Step 1: Work directly with the partners to prioritize goals. Step 2: When possible, identify additional volunteers for a planning work group. Step 3: Research higher performing partners to use as model partner. Step 4: Create plan to improve intake and recording systems where necessary Step 5: Identify local resources to assist with providing access to additional services for clients such as access to federal benefits, employment training, job seeking, counseling etc. and develop practical information and referral system for partner. Step 6: Develop template and individualized toolkits for partner organizations. Step 7: Draft a preliminary plan and present final plan to lead personnel (director, Board, Pastor.) Step 8: Develop implementation and work schedule for the plan with full buy-in of the partner.
Member Activity: Step 1: Assist with fundraising and grant writing to ensure stability and access to additional food and work with network partners to prepare and submit proposals for funding or equipment in collaboration with Community Engagement VISTA's. Step 2: Connect partners to nutrition education resources. Step 3: Assist with establishing or strengthening Board and
encouraging new volunteers. Step 4: Evaluate and revise toolkit templates depending on results of tasks. Step 5: Conduct another Capacity Building assessment at the end of each year to measure progress.
Member Activity: Step 1: Work with Agency Relations Team to identify a subject that they can develop content for the Capacity Building Catalog tool for our member agencies. Step 2: Identify Food Bank Staff or outside stakeholder as a content expert. Step 3: Create lesson plans with help of content expert: determine how to breakdown subject, what type of lessons are needed and how many lessons are needed. Step 4: Present completed subject for Capacity Catalog at monthly Capacity Building VISTA meeting. Step 5: Share information to be published in the resource Catalog.
