Job Description:

This position will support the Benefit subject matter experts with researching and following-up on administrative, financial, and escalated customer service inquiries across benefits (health & welfare, 401(k), pension, PTO) and HR services.  The position will collaborate with internal Discover HR teams (Benefits, HR Operations, Payroll, Employee Relations, HR Consultants and HRIS) as well as third party service providers.  Position will perform basic project management.  The successful candidate will have 2+ years of benefits experience – preferably in a HR services delivery or benefits administration role.  Preference will be given to operational experience in an employee benefits function with outsourced vendor coordination.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform administrative and operational assignments and tasks related to various employee benefit programs such as medical, dental, vision, life, COBRA, FSA, HSA, 401(k), pension and PTO

  • Provide answers and assist with the resolution of employee benefit questions/issues escalated from outsourced benefits administrator or internal partners

  • Assist with the implementation of new vendors, services, or plan provisions

  • Work with internal and external partners to coordinate logistics for benefits events including annual enrollment events, annual wellness screenings, and flu shots.

  • Work with internal and external partners to understand and maintain benefit plan participant data flowing between Discover and all third parties. Includes identifying and resolving data discrepancies and ensuring appropriate corrective action, understanding what data is going where, enforcing controls on data flow.

  • Assist with the annual enrollment process by performing testing of enrollment systems, fulfillment of enrollment materials, and ensuring quality control of documents and data related to annual enrollment

  • Coordinate distribution of communications including working with internal and external partners to maintain websites, email, and/or mail communications as appropriate. Identify updates needed on websites and work with partners to ensure updates are made to keep data accurate and compliant. Participate in testing of websites/systems prior to release. Maintain accurate process flows and job aids

  • On-time payment of benefits invoices, weekly claims funding, and administrative services fees

  • Respond to routine governmental inquiries, including QMESCOs and Medicare notices. Work with external vendors, benefits team, and Discover legal team as needed to coordinate responses to standard legal requests

  • Assist benefits team members with providing data for annual external audits

  • Participate in meetings, including regular operational meetings with benefits administrator as well as stewardship meetings with benefits vendors

  • Maintain basic understanding of laws, legal codes, regulations, and legal requirements around benefits administration and ensure company compliance with federal and state laws

  • Maintain compliance with internal Discover policies, controls, rules, and procedures

  • Promote a risk-aware culture, ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.

 

Skills:

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • 2+ years of benefits experience preferably in a HR services delivery or benefits administration role.

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Communications, Marketing or Finance

  • Ability to track and manage detail in the delivery of projects and day-to-day operational support

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and handle pressure situations effectively and professionally

  • Ability to work with multiple parties to identify problems, define root causes, develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions

  • Ability to behave in an honest and ethical manner at all times and in all situations

  • Ability to receive and accept coaching, advice, and input from others

  • Ability to work effectively and remain resilient under stressful, ambiguous, or changing conditions (e.g., adjusting to multiple and conflicting demands, modifying behaviors as necessary to attain goals)

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services (e.g., customer needs assessments, meeting quality standards for services, evaluations of customer satisfaction)Ability to plan and organize work to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency within scheduling constraints

  • Ability to protect confidential information and work within strict privacy controls

 

 

Skills Desired:

  • Experience with Workday

  • Experience with Alight benefits administration outsourcing

  • Experience with pension plan administration

  • Customer service experience

  • Professional HR certification (CEBS, SHRM, etc)

  • Ability to listen effectively to others, demonstrate understanding, and clarify meaning

  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and understandable written text in English, following the basic rules of spelling, grammar, and punctuation
