City Engineer/Director of Public Works

DESCRIPTION: The City of Plano is seeking an experienced City Engineer/ Director of Public Works. The City Engineer/Director of Public Works is responsible for the management and administration of the Engineering Department including all engineering for City projects, including, but not limited to, subdivision and annexation review, infrastructure construction projects and standards of acceptance for developments. This is a professional position requiring an individual who is capable of exercising independent judgment and who possesses the educational and relevant experience as relates to engineering principles. The position of City Engineer requires an Illinois Professional Engineer license. The City Engineer/Director of Public Works reports directly to the Mayor. The Director of Public Works/City Engineer shall have charge of all equipment, physical assets and property owned by the City, except for fire and police equipment. He shall have authority over all personnel employed by the City in the Departments of Streets and Alleys and the Water Department, and shall have general responsibility for the maintenance, repair and proper functioning of the assets and property. More specifically, he shall have charge of the following: City Wells, Maintenance of water, sewer and storm mains, mill house, streets, alleys, sidewalks, City parks, trees, mowing, snow removal, City vehicles, equipment, street lights, traffic lights, all buildings and properties owned and operated by the City. The Director of Public Works/City Engineer reports directly to the Mayor.

QUALIFICATIONS: Hold at the minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois, with a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in Municipal setting. Knowledge of principles and practices of engineering particularly as applied to Municipal Public Works with strong emphasis in water distribution, sewer collection and conveyance, transportation disciplines. The candidate must have the ability to plan, schedule and supervise multiple complex Municipal engineering programs. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with subordinates contractors, consultants and the general public. Must be able to work well with other governmental or regulatory agencies such as Kendall County DOT and Storm Water Management, US Army Corps of Engineers, USEPA, IEPA and I.D.O.T. Have a good reputation for and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Be able to work hours as needed or as necessary, including attending meeting after hours. The ability to perform the duties for the job in a timely manner and to meet scheduled deadlines. Must be familiar with Motor Fuel Tax rules and regulations. The ability to apply for and manage State and Federal Grants from beginning to end and be able to work with other City Department to assist in maintaining the City's infrastructure. Familiarity with GIS software and Auto Cad is a plus.

SALARY & BENEFITS: SALARY RANGE $75-$95k Blue Cross Blue Shield, Vision, Dental and IMRF
