Northern Illinois Food Bank provides nutritious food to all those in need through our own efforts and those of our 665 partner agencies in the following 13 counties - Boone, DuPage, DeKalb, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Will and Winnebago. NIFB acquires, gathers, handles, and distributes approximately three million pounds of donated, government, and purchased food each month through local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, youth activity centers and other food assistance sites. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
Support NIFB’s Strategic Plan and its derivatives by managing key development functions that increase financial resources and awareness of NIFB.   Responsibilities will include identifying prospects, meeting face to face and soliciting prospects while achieving NIFB monetary goals through special events, promotions and volunteers.  

Essential Functions

  1. Oversee special events and promotions to assure proper cost/revenue ratio.
  2. Recruit and train committee members.
  3. Work together with the Foundation and Corporate Giving Team to identify and solicit prospects for special event sponsorships.
  4. Prepare proposals, solicitation letters and general event marketing materials.
  5. Ensure that third-party event policies are being adhered to and meet the requirement for maintaining the NIFB brand.
  6. Identify and recommend individual donors and third-party event donors for increased involvement with NIFB through Moves Management process.
  7. Maintain and complete budgets as needed.
  8. Recruit new corporate volunteer groups.
  9. Perform volunteer orientation as needed.
  10. Build community awareness & engagement opportunities
  11. Build relationships with food pantries and their clients
  12. Interview & write stories as needed
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Skills, Education, & Experience

  • Commitment to understanding and supporting NIFB’s mission.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 3 years’ experience in a fundraising role for a non-profit organization.
  • Proven track record in executing fundraising activities which raise $50,000 plus.
  • 2 years’ experience soliciting large individual and or corporate gifts.
  • The ideal candidate should have successful experience in developing cultivation and solicitation strategies and managing events.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to use on-line and Raisers Edge resources.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Raiser’s Edge, Convio & or Team Raiser a plus.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with groups and individuals. This is a sedentary role; however, some filing is required as well as event set up and tear down. This would require the ability to move files, transport event signage, move silent auction items, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Travel

Must be able to travel 20% of the time.
