PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR THE VILLAGE OF MAPLE PARK INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF: Public Works Director with an application deadline of June 30, 2018.

This administrative/working position reports directly to the Village President. The Director of Public Works will assign, review and approve the work of the staff of the Public Works Department. Full job description can be found on the village's website.


Supervises any full-time Public Works Assistants and any other part-time employees. This includes day-to-day interaction and monitoring of work assignments. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating and recommending disciplinary action and/or termination of personnel when necessary. Oversees Community Service personnel assigned to the Public Works Department. Approves vacation, days off, and sick leave of Public Works staff. Verifies and approves timesheets of all Public Works staff. Responsible for: Maintenance/Janitorial, Streets, Water, Wastewater, Stormwater, Signage, Budget, and Vendor/Purchasing. Works closely with Police Department, Fire Department, Village Board, and Village President.


The individual in this position must possess a CDL valid driver's license for all of the equipment that he/she will operate. During employment, the individual will be expected to secure proper licensing through the State of Illinois for the application of herbicides and pesticides. Basic computer and mechanical skills are required. This individual must be available to work in extreme cold and hot conditions and be able to lift 75 pounds.


The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break; however, this individual must be flexible as he/she will be called in on occasion to perform tasks outside the normal work schedule. The director must be available at all times or assign someone to be available in his/her absence. Members of the Public Works staff must be available to work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of Labor Day weekend.
