SUMMARY

The Vice President of Medical Education for AMITA Health will oversee medical education, which includes both graduate (GME) and undergraduate (UGME) medical education, for the system. This position provides strategic, operational, and financial management support for medical education in order to fulfill the mission and align operational efficiencies within the organization. The Vice President of Medical Education interfaces with external academic partners as well as internal stakeholders within medical education.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides oversight for areas of responsibility to ensure achievement of goals.
  • Oversees the development and continuous improvement of services, policies, processes, and programs. Provides leadership to management within areas of responsibility.
  • Oversees operations, budget, financial targets, and human resources management.
  • Formulates and implements operational strategies and initiatives.
  • Directs, evaluates, and monitors performance of assigned areas of responsibility to ensure the delivery of services meet cost, quality, safety, and experience requirements to achieve operational goals.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide input and recommends a vision and strategic direction for GME within AMITA Health in a collaborative approach.
  • Develop a strategic GME slot allocation plan to optimize existing and potential AMITA Health locations to leverage the teaching and support needs.
  • Implement an ongoing process to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and provide status reports to the SVP Medical Education & System DIO.
  • Assist the SVP Medical Education & System DIO in evaluating the system's workforce development plan, in conjunction with AHMG and regional work structures, and create strategic GME solutions in response.
  • Work with the SVP Medical Education & System DIO to develop and implement standardized policies for system-sponsored ACGME accreditation.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements for sponsored programs and evaluate effectiveness of performance improvement plans.
  • Implement faculty development, research support and investigate affiliations to provide requisite excellence in clinical learning environments, inclusive of defined expectations for academic protected' time with a unified percentage allocation for internal equity.
  • Prepare the agenda of System Graduate Medical Education Council and GME CEO Advisory Board.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of high-quality GME graduates into the AMITA Health delivery system, as identified, which may include a transition to practice elective.
  • Establish policies and ensure compliance with any resident remediation, probation or adverse action.
  • Develop consistent policies and procedures for Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) visits that will be generalizable to all institutions that participate in GME.
  • Develop generalizable educational content, such as medical economics, practice management, ethics, religious identity, and other topics as identified by the programs.
  • Work with Legal and Compliance to monitor physician arrangements in GME, and affiliation agreements in GME and undergraduate Medical Education (UGME).
  • Collaborate with Central Research Office to promote and comply with requirements for scholarly activity within the residency programs with specific written goals for local, regional and national participation.
  • Ensure comparative cost and quality analysis is conducted, with external benchmarking, of all GME programs utilizing budgeting and cost accounting methodologies with collaboration and sign off of final budget from each regional CFO.
  • Establish system resident salary and benefits, contracting, and orientation. Develop working councils to promote best practices, e.g. Family Medicine Residency Council, Resident Wellness Council and Residency Coordinator Councils.
  • Assist the Reimbursement Department with accurate and maximized IRIS reporting
  • Work in collaboration with AHMG and ministry for any site-specific GME clinics, i.e. Family Practice Clinic.
  • As needed, act as liaison to local CME committees for system-directed initiatives.


What You Will Need

Education:
  • Diploma
    • Bachelor's degree required Master's degree preferred

Work Experience:
  • 7 years of experience required. 10 years of experience preferred. 5 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
  • 5 years' experience in medical education preferred.
  • Familiarity with the accreditation processes of the ACGME, AOA, and CPME. Candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of requirements of Next Accreditation System (NAS) and Clinical Learning Environment Reviews (CLER).
