Maintenance Employee/Laborer/Snow Plow Driver  Immediate Openings!

(1) Full- Time Position 

       $18.00 per hour 40 Hours + per week generous step increases over 3 years 

       Health and Dental Insurance

(2) Part-Time Positions 

     Regular Part-Time (Not Seasonal) Max 32 Hours per week

DUTIES:
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.


Work under the direction of the Director of Public Works or designee. Maintain all Village property and equipment. Provide competent and responsive service to the general public.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Roads and right-of-ways maintenance in the entire Village and in areas covered by intergovernmental agreements.

Spring, Summer and Fall:

  • Responsibility to patch potholes as needed
  • Responsibility to add gravel to shoulder as needed; 
  • Responsibility to determine and perform maintenance whenever needed to all street signs and posts and to report status of stock to department head for ordering.
  • Responsibility to trim trees and brush in right-of-ways and to remove when necessary.
  • Responsibility to clean all ditches and roadsides.
  • Responsibility to keep all culverts free of debris and dig out each entry as necessary.
  • Responsibility to be available for call in by department head on off shift hours for emergency tree removal or road closures or other emergency.
  • Parks and Beach Maintenance Spring, Summer and Fall:
  • Responsibility to check playground equipment for breaks or damage, etc.
  • Responsibility to add sand or gravel if needed at beach or around play areas.
  • Responsibility to trim trees or remove dead ones as needed. Responsibility to cut grass in park and beach areas.
  • Responsibility to empty trash containers once or twice per week as necessary.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Responsibility to clean all vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • Responsibility to perform routine maintenance on all vehicles and motorized equipment; including but not limited to all fluids, hoses, fuses, filters and lights.
  • Responsibility to report needed repairs to department head for his determination; minor repairs usually will be done in house - any repair determined not to be cost efficient or beyond our capabilities will be sent out.
  • Responsibility to use all hand tools and equipment and vehicles properly and with care, and to see that each is returned to its designated area and secured after use.

Building Maintenance:

  • Responsibility for general maintenance, up keep, and cleanliness of all areas in Village owned buildings including work and storage areas, and garage areas
  • Responsibility for maintenance, up keep and cleanliness of all outside areas of Village owned buildings including the building itself and the grounds.
  • Responsibility to purchase necessary small hand tools and material/equipment required to perform maintenance and in house repairs; referring any proposed purchase of items requiring purchase order or Board approval to department head for determination.
  • Responsibility to see that areas of the building that house equipment or tools are kept secure from theft whether evening or daytime. 
  • Responsibility to perform any other tasks or projects that may occur. Snow and Ice Operations
  • Operates snowplow and sanding/salting truck to remove ice and snow from roads, parking lots and sidewalks, which require early morning starts, extended hours, and weekend duty including holidays.
  • Proficiency in the use of a motor vehicle, telephone, computer. 
  • Performs tasks and follows instructions in a manner that ensures personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Operates and properly maintains all tools, vehicles

Physical Requirements
Moderate physical effort required in performing work. Occasionally required to push/pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds; occasionally required to comfortably lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires good close, distant, and peripheral vision, and depth perception. Ability to occasionally perform some strenuous work under varying weather conditions.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
High school diploma or equivalent, with prior responsible work experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid Illinois Class B CDL with air-brake endorsement at time of application.

Upon employment offer, must pass a medical examination. This examination will include testing and review of previous employment record for substance abuse. This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Department of Transportation rules.
