SUMMARY

The Behavioral Health Technician - Acute/Inpatient Care provides care for the patients by assisting in crisis stabilization and discharge to appropriate follow up services, in collaboration with the nursing and social service staff on the Behavioral Health unit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Gathers patient data including the level of patient orientation and emotional state, through observation and completion of the charting flow sheets, and reports significant changes to the Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Monitors patient vital signs, dietary and fluid intake, patient elimination and sleeping patterns to determine changes in symptoms. Report any changes to the RN.

  • Gathers urine and stool samples as directed, label them appropriately, and ensure delivery to the lab.

  • Assists with patient ambulation and transfer from wheelchair or bed when appropriate to prevent loss of strength, provide for patient safety, and prevent skin breakdown.

  • Implements and assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) as indicated in the Individual Care Plan.

    Education and/or Experience

    High school diploma required.

    Enrollment in accredited Registered Nursing program with successful completion of the first semester of the nursing core curriculum and completion of Introduction to nursing course (which includes basic nursing skills); or Licensure as Emergency Medical Training- Basic (EMT-B) with one year of active field/hospital experience; or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with one year active hospital experience.

    Computer Skills

    Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Licensure as Emergency Medical Training-Basic (EMT-B) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) may be needed in addition to experience requirements listed above.
