Lecturer (Variable-Time)
To Begin January 1, 2018
Description of Position
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is seeking a Program Coordinator and Clinical Supervisor for an off-campus program at the University Center of Lake County in Grayslake, IL. This is a non-tenure track, term position in the area of Elementary Education with particular emphasis on instruction and clinical supervision of field experiences for undergraduate students focused on earning a Professional Educator License.
Responsibilities of the Position
1. Supervise undergraduate clinical experiences in approved public schools.
2. Secure placements for future clinical placements in approved public schools maintaining formal agreements with Southern Illinois University Carbondale to provide practical experiences.
3. Attend monthly clinical supervision meetings using a phone or video link through the internet.
4. Serve as a liaison between SIU Carbondale and the University Center of Lake County, between the SIU Carbondale campus and the public schools in the Lake County region, between SIU Carbondale and the regional community colleges, and between the SIU Carbondale faculty and the UCLC faculty.
5. Oversee the completion of the Educational Affiliation Board Agreements with the public schools.
6. Assist with the recruitment and retention of current and new students for the program.
7. Arrange faculty meetings during the semester.
8. Assist Curriculum and Instruction Department Chair with hiring future faculty to teach courses.
Requirements of Candidates
1. The rank of Lecturer requires a doctorate degree with an emphasis in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Education Leadership or other closely related field.
2. Successful teaching experience in one or more levels: Pre-K to 12th Grade classrooms.
3. Experience as an educational leader in a P-12 school setting.
4. Excellent communication and time management skills.
Preferred qualifications are:
a. Experience in supervising or mentoring novice teachers.
b. Student Teacher Supervisory experience in public school classrooms.
Appointment
This is a variable-time, non-tenure-track appointment for spring 2018. The successful candidate may be re-appointed for future semesters contingent on programmatic needs, funding, and job performance.
