Food Sourcing Specialist - Will County

Food Sourcing Retail & Strategy Specialist

Summary/Objective

To support NIFB’s strategic plan and its derivatives including the challenge to grow resources in the counties of Will, Grundy, Kendall and Kankakee.  Primary responsibility is to develop and maintain retail partnerships to produce additional sources and maximum yield of food donations throughout the Food Bank’s Retail Store Donation Program.  Additionally, review reports to identify opportunities and develop strategies to pursue potential food, fund, and volunteer prospects that may be available or enhanced in support of food sourcing and organizational objectives, initiatives and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate targeted retail donors for the Food Bank.
  • Be the conduit in this retail sector that attracts not only food, but funds and volunteers.
  • Analyze weekly food donation data and offer strategic insight - with recommendations - on actions needed.
  • Expand the acquisition of high quality food including meat, produce, dairy, and shelf-stable items from retailers.
  • Develop and maintain good communications with these retail partner stores’ management and staff to improve acquisition outcomes and ensure a high level of customer service.
  • Cultivate relationships with targeted retail grocer District and Regional Managers along with local store managers and staff.
  • Maximize relationships to produce other opportunities that generate awareness, monetary support, or volunteerism.
  • Generate weekly and monthly activity reports to update Director.
  • Work with Customer Service and Agency Relations teams to establish and maintain process for managing agencies participating in the food bank’s Direct Connect program.
  • Contribute to other general food sourcing activities as needed or requested.
  • Liaison to Sourcing, Logistics and Warehouse groups creating platforms for strategic improvement. 
  • Works collaboratively across internal and external partners to strategically align end to end processes and develop effective solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree / or equivalent food, business, or sales experience.
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting NIFB’s mission.
  • Experience in the retail grocery industry a plus
  • Experience in supply chain or logistics a plus
  • Ability to scrutinize information and disseminate analysis
  • Ability to use initiative and work pro-actively on different tasks
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations in a calm and efficient manner
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Comfortable speaking/presenting in front of large groups
  • A background in sales or retail account management a plus
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Safe food handling certification or ability to pass training; keep Certification current
  • Proficient with various computer programs including – Outlook, Excel, Word, Access
  • Bachelors from an Accredited University
