JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
Northern Illinois Food Bank is dedicated to building community awareness and creating an efficient food distribution network to eliminate hunger.  Staff is committed to embodying these values in all activities.  Relationships are based on collaboration and respect.  Resources are leveraged in a manner that is strategic and cost effective in order to achieve the food bank’s mission and goals. The position provides management of the relationships with network partners and community organizations for collection and distribution of product through the food bank.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that there is sufficient agency capacity to meet food distribution goals, recommending new programs and distribution opportunities to increase food distribution to underserved areas
  2. Provide Director of Network Partnerships and other internal stakeholders with regular communications pertaining the needs and issues of the network partners and communities in their assigned service area.
  3. Promote Food Bank programs, products, and services, assisting in the coordination of programs in their assigned service area.
  4. Manage on-going communication with all network partners through visits, email, and telephone calls.
  5. Maintain up to date knowledge of the Food Bank’s inventory and operations to promote increased food distribution and participation in NIFB anti-hunger and awareness activities.
  6. Attends outside training meetings to develop and encourage resource building and sharing in individual communities.
  7. Develops cooperative partnerships with other local organizations to better serve the food bank’s counties and its needs
  8. Informs network partners of available resources and determines appropriate distribution to ensure efficient use of resources.  Monitors the use of those resources by member agencies and conducts follow up when necessary.
  9. Work with the program department to ensure that required monitoring and other operating guidelines, regulations and rules are followed and documented as per the food bank and Feeding America or other governing body requirements.
  10. Maintain and update both electronic and hardcopy records, files, databases etc. that pertain to Food Bank network relationships. 
  11. Represent NIFB in community organizations and at appropriate local functions when requested to do so or when necessary.
  12. In collaboration with the Development Department, be alert to public relations/promotional activities related to raising general community awareness of hunger issues in assigned counties.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not manage any subordinates.

Work Environment
This job operates approximately 25% in a professional office environment. The remainder of the time is in the field, on site at our agency partners. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to frequently communicate with agency partners, community members, internal and external customers, and team members over the phone, through email, and in person. They should be able to move inside and outside on uneven surfaces, climb and descend stairs, identify and count inventory, and fill out monitor forms. This would require the ability to move files and supplies to and from agency sites, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool or ladder as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position regularly requires night and weekend work.

Travel
This position requires up to 60% local travel.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Four year degree in related area or equivalent experience
  2. Proven success in leading the development and implementation of process improvements.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  5. Strong customer focus
  6. Proficient in Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.
  7. Works Independently.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Proven success in managing and motivating others.
  2. Familiarity with the concepts of inventory management.
  3. Familiar with assigned geographical area
  4. Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
