Agency Services Specialist

Northern Illinois Food Bank’s mission is to lead the northern Illinois community in solving hunger by providing nutritious meals to those in need through innovative programs and partnerships.  Working collaboratively with a community of donors, volunteers and feeding programs, the Food Bank provides food across 13 northern Illinois counties each week. Northern Illinois Food Bank, a member of Feeding America, has received Charity Navigator’s 4-Star rating for fifteen consecutive years for its fiscal responsibility. Ninety-six percent of the Food Bank’s resources go to programs that feed the hungry.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
Northern Illinois Food Bank is dedicated to building community awareness and creating an efficient food distribution network to eliminate hunger.  Staff is committed to embodying these values in all activities.  Relationships are based on collaboration and respect.  Resources are leveraged in a manner that is strategic and cost effective in order to achieve the Food Bank’s mission and goals. The position provides facilitation and oversight of Food Bank programs.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Oversee coordination, promotion and reporting of Mobile Pantry Program
  • Monthly meetings with stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to schedule mobiles and locate stis for mobiles
  • Outreach for advertising
  • Collect and store data for internal teams
  • Update website calendar for hungry neighbors and google calendar for member agencies
  1. Oversee coordination, promotion and reporting of Holiday Meal Box Program
  • Collaborate with internal teams to distribute HMB during the holiday season including but not limited to: advertising and distribution
  1. Oversee coordination, promotion and reporting of School Base Food Pantry Program
  • Collaborate with internal teams to locate potential schools to open new SBFP
  • Collect and store monthly data that is available for internal teams and NAR
  • Collaborate with internal teams for grant funding
  1. Support Compliance and Best Practices Manager in administrative functions of Food Bank and TEFAP compliance programs including receipt and documentation of service data, providing ‘traffic control’ for membership application processes, and ongoing assistance with monitoring documentation and monitor follow-up processes.
  2. Represent the Food Bank in community organizations and at appropriate local functions when requested to do so or when necessary.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not manage any subordinates.

Work Environment
This job operates approximately 70% in a professional office environment. The remainder of the time is in the field, on site at a member agency or our mobile pantry. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to frequently communicate with member agencies, community members, internal and external customers, and team members over the phone, through email, and in person. They should be able to move inside and outside on uneven surfaces, climb and descend stairs, identify and count inventory. This would require the ability to move files and supplies; open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool or ladder as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Night and weekend work might be necessary in some circumstances.

Travel
This position requires up to 30% local travel.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Four year degree in related area or equivalent experience
  2. Proven success in leading the development and implementation of process improvements.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft and Google suites

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Proven success in motivating others.
  2. Familiar with inventory management.
  3. Familiar with mapping software
  4. Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
