Network Engineer I

This hourly (non-exempt position) is responsible for assisting in the configuring, installing, troubleshooting and repairing of network and system infrastructure solutions. In addition, this role focuses on LAN/WAN administration, monitoring, and trending in addition to UAC/NAC and other security responsibilities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the secondary engineering contact on projects/issues.

Work with third party partners on simpler aspects of complex network projects involving repeatable tasks.

Provide operational management and support for complex IT infrastructures

Assist in set up and install new network equipment

Identify and resolve network and related system problems

Perform troubleshooting activities on production systems off-hours (nights or weekends) if required to minimize impact to operations

Administer network solutions, including Cisco, Juniper, and Aruba

Administer UAC/NAC solution.

Perform network hardware and software upgrades and installations under the supervision of the senior engineer/lead.

Perform backup and recovery processes for network based systems

Interface with external vendors as necessary

Work with managed firewall vendor on moves/adds/changes.

Work with third party partners on connectivity and hosted solutions.

Work with other Engineer's on wireless and VoIP systems and IT management to maintain, document and train on best practices configurations across all supported systems.

Troubleshoot electronic signs.

Troubleshoot and be able to deploy new remote switches and routers.

Maintain strong knowledge base of current technology with continuous knowledge transfer with other engineers as well as self-study.

Comprehend all network related documentation/diagrams as well as device port mapping documentation.

Perform traffic packet capture for specific requests.

Assist on incident response activities.

Assist with multiple projects within the department. These projects may include the following; configure (build) network solutions, fix network problems that cause the system to be unreliable, identify and correct security concerns, contribute to the development of systems documentation and a basic set of operating procedures for the day-to-day maintenance of networking systems and support of internal systems on a regular, scheduled, and emergency basis.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience acceptable.

Network solution certifications, including Cisco CCNA or Juniper JNCIA track a plus.

Minimum of 1-2 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified is required.

Computer networking knowledge and experience in computer network architecture and implementation including network operating systems, network design, and directory services required.

Network infrastructure knowledge and experience in LAN/WAN infrastructure technologies and implementation strategies required.

Network infrastructure Administration: (Cisco routers, firewalls, switches and VPN concentrators).

Microsoft Windows experience required.

Previous exposure to enterprise NAC solutions and Linux OS preferred.

Hands-on in a help desk environment is preferred.

Experience with the following technologies: MS Windows OS, network vendor solutions (Juniper, Cisco, Aruba), routers and TCP/IP Schema, server hardware (HP, IBM, Dell), firewall servers, and Remote Access Solutions.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills, critical thinking and problem solving or troubleshooting skills.

Ability to relay technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel. Excellent time management skills is required.

Minimal travel to branch network and/or training facility.

Must be available Monday through Friday with the ability to participate in a shift rotation of approximately one Saturday a month and off-hours on-call.
