Elgin Community College (ECC) is a comprehensive, fully accredited community college located in Elgin, Illinois, one of its most rapidly growing cities. Our district encompasses 360 square miles, serving 400,000 people, 11,000 businesses with four public school districts and 15 high schools. ECC was selected as one of five Illinois community colleges to participate in the national Achieving the Dream (AtD) initiative. is a long-term national initiative that collaborates with community colleges to help more students earn degrees, complete certificates, or transfer to four-year institutions to continue their studies. The park-like setting of our 145 acre Main Campus offers instruction spanning nine major buildings with beautiful views. ECC also offers classes throughout the northwest suburbs of Chicago with more than 100 off-campus locations.

Function:
Provide technical services support for the performing arts instructional programs, community arts instructional programs, community rentals and visiting performing artists. Assist in planning, coordination, preparation and execution of technical services for all Arts Center events.

In collaboration with the immediate supervisor the successful candidate can create a 25-hour work week within Mon-Fri 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. parameters except for required attendance or support at select community events/activities. Candidates must be willing to work a flexible work schedule that meets the needs of the department.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Provide assistance during Arts Center productions, to include lighting, sound, set construction, load-in/strike and rigging support. Coordinate performances and theatre technicians in the implementation of performance needs. Provide routine and customary maintenance of performance and rehearsal facilities and equipment.

2. Assist supervisor with event and staff schedule generation, hiring paperwork, time sheets, requisitions, reports, etc.

3. Run light board during rehearsals, techs, and performances.

4. Operate sound board during rehearsals, techs, and performances.

5. Schedule, transfer and compile archival sound and video recordings; perform recordings when assigned.

6. Assist supervisor with monitoring supply inventory. Initiate purchase requisitions and generate budget reports as needed.

7. Train employees on the proper and safe operation of equipment.

Requirements:


1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

2. Four years professional experience in technical theatre, especially in the area of set construction, lighting and rigging.

3. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

4. Computer proficiency (Outlook, Excel, Word or equivalent).

5. Ability to learn and use department databases and technical theatre drafting applications.

6. Familiarity with OSHA codes and safety regulations.

7. Practical experience in theatrical electrical and audio systems.
