Superintendent of Finance & Administration

The DeKalb Park District is seeking a Superintendent of Finance & Administration.

This position is responsible for the financial functions of the DeKalb Park District, including payroll, accounts payable, cash receipts, general ledger, record keeping, budget development, external financial reporting, internal audit controls, development of the annual tax levy, and development of the annual audit.

This position performs a variety of supervisory, professional, administrative and technical accounting and finance functions in maintaining the fiscal records and systems of the District. The Superintendent of Finance is charged with developing financial plans to meet the goals of the District, directing the daily financial operations for the District, and coordinating the District’s budget process.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college or university is required and a CPA is desirable. Must have a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in governmental accounting. Supervisory experience is preferred.

The Superintendent of Finance must possess a knowledge of and skill in government fund accounting, finance, budgeting and internal controls and have a working knowledge of computerized financial systems. The ability to prepare budgets, financial statement reports, ordinances and payroll tax reports is also required. 

DeKalb, Illinois with a population of approximately 44,000 is located 60 miles west of Chicago, 29 miles northwest of Aurora and 40 miles southeast of Rockford. DeKalb is an urban community with a vital industrial and commercial base within a rural setting. The DeKalb Park District is a vital part of the community, operating 44 parks, with 700 acres of parkland, 2 golf courses, 2 recreation centers including an indoor fieldhouse, and a community swimming pool.
