GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

The Staff Accountant is responsible for the financial close cycle, general ledger input and maintenance, related functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and the distribution of financial information to management.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Correctly prepares the reconciliation of general ledger accounts and manages a portion of the financial closing
  • Prepares financial statement reports in an organized fashion according to established schedules and Safer Foundation’s accounting standards
  • Completes all month-end closing items as assigned, ensures journal entries are input into the computerized accounting system accurately, in a timely manner
  • Completes journal entries for the charge out of prepaid expenses, and monthly adjustments in the designated time frame 
  • Ensures that internal and external customers experience the highest standards of customer service, including the protection of confidential and private information.
  • Prepares monthly funder billings including quarterly reports and budget modifications as assigned
  • Reviews and processes appropriately authorized employee expense reports semi-monthly
  • Works with Senior Accountant on the monthly preparation of the cost allocation plan in an accurate and organized fashion according to established deadlines and serves as back-up to other members of the Finance Department team, as needed

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and responsibilities related to the financial close cycle, fixed assets and accounting for multi-location organizations
  • Ability to work independently and in a team. Ability to problem-solve, multi-task, and organize in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be detail-oriented with skills in interpersonal and oral/written communications.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite as well as financial accounting software, i.e., MIP, Peachtree, etc.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Business
  • 1-2 years’ successful and equivalent work experience
