Key Responsibilities

This position is located in an expanding PPG paint operation in Chicago.  The QC Manager provides leadership and expertise in the area of paint production quality control test methods for the improvement of product quality and processing efficiency and effectively meet customer requirements on a timely basis.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Directs QC activities to ensure consistent performance of finished products in accordance with quality and performance specifications of the customer.
  • Minimize variation in testing of raw material and paint products through the calibration/verification of test equipment, standardization of procedures, and training of personnel.
  • Make minor formula adjustments, working with Technical, to meet customer specifications assure manufacturability.
  • Direct the installation of new testing techniques and procedures to ensure quality production and to maintain acceptable standards to product performance.  This individual explores innovative methods to reduce test times on products and coordinates technical changes with the technical group.
  • Promote sound customer relations through effective and timely communications with the manufacturing, technical and operations planning departments to ensure product quality and meet shipping schedules.
  • Develop technical skills and improve technical proficiency and communication skills of the team.
  • Coordinate problem solving activities for batches that are processing abnormally and problem batches identified in the field (CAIRS).
  • Identify, work with and lead teams on opportunities for process improvements and optimization.
  • Lead and drive an active safety, six sigma and lean manufacturing and 5s program.

Requires:

  • B.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other physical science degree with 5 or more years of QC paint or chemicals experience; in lieu of a degree, 10 or more years of QC paint experience and proven ability to lead effectively lead a team.

Skills

  • Knowledge of problem solving techniques and tools and ability to creatively analyze complex problems.
  • Good communication skills and proven ability to drive change and obtain results.
  • Experience formulating coatings products preferred.
