Job Summary & Essential Functions

Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) Principal Gifts Specialist is a member of WWP’s fundraising team. The Principal Gifts Specialist will steward a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects rated with a gift capacity of $1 million or more. This position will identify, cultivate and solicit high net worth individuals through ongoing personal contact with strong emphasis on in-person meetings and cultivation events.  The Principal Gifts Specialist will share in the financial goal of the Major Gifts team and be responsible for generating revenue from cash, gifts of stock and deferred gifts. 


Essential Dutie & Responsibilties

  • Responsible for soliciting principal gifts of $1 million or more
  • Travel to meet with existing and prospective donors
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle
  • Initiate contact with major donors
  • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies
  • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
  • Appropriately steward donors and donations using recognition program and CRM system
  • Utilize moves management strategies for prospects
  • Develop highly personalized donor communications including proposals, stewardship reports and general program updates
  • Utilize wealth screening information, other research and networks of existing donors to identify prospective major donors
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, professional, and positive manner
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with high net worth individuals and “C-Suite” executives
  • Ability to work independently, exercise confidentiality and good judgment
  • Excellent listening skills and willingness to serve others
  • Ability to travel
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum five (5) years of fundraising related experience is required
  • Experience soliciting and securing six-figure and larger gifts required
  • Experience building relationships with C-Suite and high net worth individuals is required
  • CFRE, CFP designation preferred
