SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Pharmacy Director, Manager, Supervisor and/or Pharmacists, the majority of the chemotherapy technician duties includes safe handling and direct preparation of IV and/or oral chemotherapy/hazardous medications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs sterile and non-sterile product preparation utilizing aseptic and hazardous drug compounding techniques following USP 797 / 800 compliance standards.
Prepares and labels extemporaneously compounded non-sterile pharmaceuticals including the counting and auditing of oral chemotherapy.
Performs required cleaning and maintenance of the all compounding areas, cleanroom, buffer area, ante room, and general pharmacy space to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
Provides support in maintaining hazardous drug 340B (if applicable) and non-340B inventory, billing information, patient profiles, and other department records as needed.
Maintains the integrity of biologic safety cabinets and/or laminar flow hoods by using proper techniques, daily cleaning, and maintaining certification.
Electronically or manually logs expiration dating, outdates, temperature and humidity per regulations.
Maintains accurate logs on all clinical trial protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs. Maintains proper control documentation of medications, including lot numbers and all other quality assurance activities.

Education and/or Experience
High School diploma or G.E.D. required
3 years of pharmacy experience in a hospital setting required
1 year of experience in chemo drug preparation preferred.
Computer Skills
Basic knowledge of computers and automated dispensing systems
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Illinois Pharmacy Technician License required.
Certificate by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required unless grandfathered. If not certified, may consider hiring with the stipulation that certification must be received within 2 years of licensure.
