The Nursing Professional Development Specialist, an advanced practice nurse educator, is responsible for development, planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of educational programs, with a focus on transition-to-practice programs, general hospital and nursing orientation programs, preceptor and leadership development programs, and nursing student clinical placements and rotations. Accountable for educational outcomes and effectiveness of programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Primary management accountability for transition to practice programs, general hospital and nursing orientation programs, preceptor and leadership development programs, clinical ladder program, and academic partnerships. Continually remains up-to-date on best practices and utilizes adult learning methods related to the above programs in addition to other professional development and education initiatives and opportunities.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Practice Specialists to assess nurse learning needs, design educational programs, coordinate unit-based competencies, approve nursing educational content, analyze and quantify program costs and impact, and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with other leaders to establish strategic direction, educational and professional development programming and curriculum that ensures competency and role development.
  • Develops and implements department education policies and procedures, consistent with administrative policies and regulatory agencies. Monitors federal, state and other regulatory standards/requirements for changes or additions and ensure compliance by incorporating those changes and communicating to/educating associates on changes. Provides guidance on noncompliance issues when necessary.
  • Manages general hospital and nursing orientation. Evaluates effectiveness of general and nursing orientation on an ongoing basis.
  • Leads the development and execution of recruitment and retention strategies and programs such as student placements, student externships, new graduate nurse internships and nurse transition programs, managing content, analyzing data, and providing recommendations and improvements.
  • Leads nursing recognition efforts including DAISY Award, Nurses Week, certification and degree completion celebrations, and other efforts aimed at rewarding and recognizing nursing achievements.

    Education and/or Experience
    Master's degree in Nursing or Education required.
    Minimum of three years of healthcare experience required.
