Mental Health Counselor


Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, performs routine patient care duties, provides a safe and therapeutic environment, and assists in the admission, provision of patient care, discharge, and transfer of patients. Care of the patient is provided with specific attention to age and developmental life stage of the patient, family/living environment, cultural factors, level of functioning, mental status, and medical issues affecting treatment.

  1. Coordinates care for a group of patients for a designated period to achieve clinical outcomes.
  2. Manages hand-off communication with incoming and outgoing shifts; conducts rounds to familiarize self with patients on the unit.
  3. Manages the admission process up to the nursing assessment including contraband checks and new patient orientation, and the discharge process specific to accurate return of belongings.
  4. Provides one on one assistance to assigned patients.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to supervise the therapeutic milieu of patient care, including de-escalation techniques.
  6. Participates in department/unit performance improvement activities.
  7. Provides assistance with basic activities of living as required, instructs on all aspects of self-care.
  8. Executes directives provided by the charge nurse


Job Requirements
Minimum 1 year experience- in-patient preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or related field
Current CPR certification required
CPI certification required within 90 days of employment
