Located at PPG’s industrial paint manufacturing plant in south Chicago, the Logistics/Inventory Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day efficient management of shipping, receiving, inventory control, and effective warehouse operation in a chemical plant environment.  This position will report to the Plant Manager, participate as a member of the plant lead team, and supervise a team of 6-7 employees.  

The successful candidate will need to learn plant operations and focus on the shipping/receiving/inventory area in order to ensure optimum levels of inventory accuracy and availability for chemical raw materials, intermediates and finished goods.  Demand analysis and strong inventory/warehouse management system experience is also critical in order to become successful.  

Key Responsibilities

• Direct supervision of a team including Shippers, Receivers, inventory control, and material handlers in support of warehouse functions.
• Daily interactions with Purchasing, Manufacturing, Customer Service, Maintenance, EHS, and others in support of department objective.
• Ensure inventory accuracy through cycle counts, physical inventories, RF scanner tracking, and inventory reconciliation including proper storage and handling of hazardous materials.
• Responsible for leading the department to meet Key Performance Indicators such as safety performance, on time shipping, productivity, inventory accuracy, and cost control.
• Coordinate the annual physical inventory of the Chicago plant and other minor warehouse locations as needed.
• Utilize computerized inventory tracking system to manage materials including assisting in the implementation of ORACLE, and new fully integrated system planned for 2017.
• Provide direction to the plant on DOT and IATA regulations as it pertains to shipment of hazardous materials.
• Develop self and the team by utilizing the available on-line development tools and other in-house, off site, and out of state training resources as identified.
• Participate on various teams focused on continuous improvement, efficiencies and planning for new business activities and conversions of products.

Qualifications

 Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in business, supply chain/logistics, engineering or applicable area
• At least three (3) years of shipping/inventory and supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Minimum Qualifications)

• Supervision and inventory/shipping experience within a union environment and manufacturing plant
• APICS certification (if no certification you must be willing to obtain within first 18 months)
• DOT/IATA regulatory knowledge

Skills

• Strong knowledge of warehouse inventory tracking systems and material flow within a manufacturing plant
• Excellent database management, report generation and computer skills using tools such as MS Access and Excel
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and employees at all levels
• Strong problem solving, organization, time management and adaptability skills
