IT Tech Associate (Programmer/Analyst-HealthC Sys)

The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is seeking an Information Technology Technical Associate (Programmer Analyst - Healthcare Systems).  This position will consult with medical center clients to gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements. Recommend and create system solutions to business problems; design and code programs per end user requirements.

Duties:

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

The following responsibilities are conducted, and account for, 100% of the employees’ time:

  • Consult with clients to gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements.
  • Analyze and gather requirements: provide detailed estimates for software development activities; estimate feasibility, costs, time, and compatibility with hardware and other programs.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, outlining steps and time tables for developing programs.
  • Develop detailed system requirements, specifications and documents, and business process rules.
  • Analyze, define, and document requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.
  • Convert design and specifications into computer code.
  • Design and code screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, printed outputs, and interfaces with other systems.
  • Conduct data quality assessments, prepare data, and create testing strategy, plans and scripts.
  • Create test transactions and run tests to find errors and confirm programs meet specifications.
  • Analyze code to find causes of errors and revise programs.
  • Consult with clients to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs to meet needs.
  • Write and maintain technical specifications. Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.
  • Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about programs. Partner with other IT staff to ensure the design accomplishes both business and technical requirements.
  • Train end users or technical support staff to use programs.
  • Monitor performance of programs after implementation.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Any combination totaling two years from the following categories:
    1. progressively more responsible work experience in IT-related profession
    2. college course work in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 60 semester hours or Associate’s Degree equals one year
      • 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor’s Degree equals two years
  2. Demonstrated experience programming in SQL and HTML

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience developing healthcare applications with CCL (Cerner Command Language) and hospital and/or healthcare background
  • Knowledge of business intelligence tools (Business Objects), data warehousing and the full Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Knowledge of multiple data access and storage systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
