Motor Safari Tour Guide and Driver at Brookfield Zoo

As a Motor Safari Adventure Guide, you will provide extraordinary guest experiences by transporting (driving) guests on designated routes throughout the park, narrating motor safari tours, and operating the Carousel, You will be providing access control function at Motor Safari stations and Carousel and responding to inquiries, providing strong customer service and portraying a good example of the Society mission. There may be times that you will be operating the Motor Safari trams and Snowball Express buses while simultaneously narrating.

Envision providing a guided tour educating our guests about our animal collection and conservation mission while the lions roar, the Buffalo roam, and the giraffes graze upon leaves at the tree tops. Brookfield Zoo is open 365 days a year welcoming over 2 million guests annually. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide the highest level of quality customer service while representing the Chicago Zoological Society in a professional manner at all times. Provide assistance and directions to guests.
  • Deliver extensive park narratives on motor Safari trams and Snowball Express buses while driving in a safe, conscientious manner, including through large crowds.
  • Operate Carousel in a safe manner following established procedures. Perform and maintain daily operational checklist.
  • Develop and learn approved tour materials and communicate special event and other information as directed.
  • Accountable for following and enforcing all applicable institutional policies and procedures and departmental protocols.
  • Provide a neat, clean appearance of self, vehicle, tram areas, and Carousel area at all times, which includes washing and cleaning vehicles and Carousel.
  • Ensure all guests boarding the tram and Carousel possess a ticket and provide the access control function. Sell Motor Safari tickets during off season.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Position Requirements and Specifications
This is a seasonal/temporary position.
The pay rate for this position is $11.50 per hour .

We are seeking individuals that are available to work a flexible schedule that would include working weekend days (when we are busiest) as well as regular week days.

The requirements for this position include:


  • High School graduate or (GED) equivalent preferred.

  • Accurate basic math and reading skills required.

  • Six months of prior driving experience transporting people preferred, but not required.

  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills.

  • Good communications and interpersonal skills.

  • Theatrical experience preferred.

  • Ability to communicate well with the public required.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must be flexible and patient.

  • Experience an/or ability to work and interact effectively with a divers, multicultural audience.

  • Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.

  • Valid driver's license required. Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois license within 90 days of hire. Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents.

  • One of more of the following licensures may be require: Valid "C" or "B" (CDL) Driver's License.

  • Valid medical authorization care required for positions responsible for operation of a Commercial Motor Vehicle.

Additional Information: This seasonal position requires a high level of customer service. Incumbent must have the ability to learn and adhere to Society policies and departmental procedures and standards. Ability to work non-standard hour including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
