Merchandise Associate

The Chicago Zoological Society has had an international reputation for taking a cutting-edge role in animal care and conservation of the natural world. Since opening in 1934, Chicago Zoological Society's Brookfield Zoo has been a heartfelt destination for many Chicagoans. The merchandise destinations located in Brookfield Zoo support our mission while providing an opportunity for our guests to preserve a memory of their visit. As a conservation organization, shopping at Coast Gift Shop offers an eclectic assortment of treasures for guests and carries the Zoo's largest selection of Fair Trade and eco-friendly products. Proceeds from merchandise sales help to feed and care for our animals! Stuffed Animal Kingdom Gift Shop is popular for a wide variety of fun, furry animals such as an important symbol of conservation, the Okapi. Wildlife Trading Post offers a scenic world tour of unique handcrafted gifts from jewelry, scarves, decorative items, animal masks, toys, crafts, stuffed animals, books, and more! Our guests are sure to find that special item to remember their special visit to Brookfield Zoo.

As a Merchandise Associate you will assist our many guests and greet them with a welcoming smile as customer service is a number one priority at Brookfield Zoo. Along with that enthusiastic and friendly greeting, your helpful assistance to guests while they browse and shop for their favorite stuffed animal will enhance their guest experience. Your friendly demeanor and vast knowledge about the stuffed animal collection will contribute positively to merchandise sales. In addition, you will be operating the cash register to accurately ring up sales; balancing the cash drawer at the end of each work day; participating in daily operations by cleaning, stocking, pricing, displaying merchandise and taking accurate inventories. All of these activities are extremely important in maintaining a high-quality experience for our more than 2 million guests each year. Merchandise Associates may be assigned to work in gift shops, tents, souvenir stands, photo booths, and carts.

Brookfield Zoo is open every day of the year including weekends and holidays. Each year we hire numerous Merchandise Associates to work in one of our several gift shop locations within the park. We are seeking to fill positions with a variety of start dates with a larger number of these start dates during spring time as we prepare for our busy summer season which kicks off Memorial weekend.

We are seeking individuals that are able to work a flexible schedule that would include working weekend days (when we are busiest) as well as regular week days. The work shifts are usually from 4 to 8 hours in length generally during the hours that Brookfield Zoo is open. The work schedule may start as early as 8:00 a.m. and end as late as 7:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. on weekends and for special events). You must be at least 16 years of age for this position.
