Dishwasher Supervisor (Seasonal)

As Dishwasher Supervisor, you will be assisting the catered events and culinary team by overseeing and assisting all dishwashers in the efficient washing and cleaning of all dishes and equipment within all three different Catered Events kitchen locations in conjunction with the Executive Chef. Following food service sanitation practices, you will be responsible for overseeing and assisting in the overall cleaning of the kitchen floors, walls, surrounding areas of the outdoor garbage dumpsters and ensuring that all storage areas are properly maintained and organized. You will make use of your prior food service experience to thoroughly train the team ensuring sanitation, safety, and quality, as well as compliance with Society standards, policies and procedures. Also drawing on this prior experience, you will coach and train staff for growth and expansion in their areas of expertise, streamline productions, cross-train staff for future growth and assume responsibility for maintaining desired service and financial results, balanced with safety and sanitation policies ensuring that staff works within scheduled hours. You will be responsible for maintaining the security of all Society equipment and supplies including sole responsibility for securing the kitchen areas, ensuring that equipment is turned off, coolers are locked and at appropriate temperatures, product is secured, and that the kitchen and building are locked prior to leaving. This includes notifying Security of approximate ending times of staff and informs Security when all staff has left the zoo. Other responsibilities include maintaining effective communications among various managers and staff alerting them of any problems with equipment, facilities or staff; ensuring adequate supply level of cleaning products, alerting the Executive Chef when more needs to be ordered; and overseeing and participating in monthly inventory process of soaps and other necessary cleaners.

Position Requirements and Specifications
Since Brookfield Zoo is open 365 days per year, this position does require the ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required. Dishwashers are scheduled to start at approximately 6:30 p.m. and work as late as 2:00 a.m. Catered Events employees may be required to work a 10-hour day or longer. Work schedules consist mainly of Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, but may require some weekdays. Work schedules are based on the needs of the operation. This is a temporary (seasonal) position. The starting wage for this position is $9.75 per hour.

The requirements for this position include:

• High school diploma or equivalent training or experience preferred.

• Must hold or obtain a Food Service Sanitation certificate as required by the city, county and state within six months of hire.

• Cooking school certificate preferred, preferably with food management courses included in the curriculum.

• One year experience in a food service environment is required.

• Must be detail oriented, organized and able to maintain a high level of accuracy. Outstanding customer service orientation required.

• Must be reliable and punctual.
Must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks.

• Experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience. Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.

• Valid driver's license required for Illinois residents within 90 days of hire; valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents.
