Dishwasher

We are looking for Dishwashers to join the Catering team to contribute to our execution of flawless events. The basic function of this position is to clean all dishes, glasses, flatware, pots, pans, equipment, etc. The position is also responsible for the proper cleaning and storage of all service pieces. All of these important activities are extremely significant in maintaining a high-quality experience for our over 2 million guests each year.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Washes and scrubs all dishes, flatware, utensils pots, pans and equipment to departmental specifications.
  • Sorts flatware and stores all dishes glasses flatware and all kitchen ware in their proper vessels/storage areas.
  • Keeps dish areas clean and the kitchen free of debris.
  • Takes out trash throughout the day and at the end of the day. Ensures that areas surround outdoor garbage dumpsters are kept clean.
  • Insures that the dishwasher is operating properly and at the correct temperatures for wash and rinse. Insures that the kitchen is supplied with the chemicals necessary to clean all wares, kitchen equipment, and surfaces.
  • Cleanly sweeps and mops the kitchen floor throughout the day and at the end of the day.
  • Immediately cleans all spills from the floor.
  • Insures that the pot sink is set up with wash compartment, rinse compartment, and sanitize compartment.
  • Helps plate up food when needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements and Specifications
As Brookfield Zoo is open 365 days a year and events are scheduled during mornings, afternoons, evenings, holidays, and weekends, the Dishwasher position requires flexible availability to work non-standard hours. Dishwashers may be scheduled to start as early as between 5:00 p.m./6:30 p.m. and work as late as 2:00 a.m. and may be required to work a 10-hour day or longer. Work schedules consist mainly of Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, but may require some weekdays. Work schedules are based on the needs of the operation. This is a temporary (seasonal) position.

The requirements for this position include:


  • High School diploma or equivalent training or experience preferred.

  • Strong customer service and organizational skills required.

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple projects and activities.

  • Must be able to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

  • Must be prompt and reliable.

  • Spanish fluency a plus, but not required.
