Culinary Supervisor
The Supervisory, Culinary (non-driving) (Seasonal) contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by providing an extraordinary guest experience through the execution of Catered Events functions, contributing to Society revenue goals and financial sustainability. Oversees and assists all food production personnel in Food Service Concession and Catered Events kitchen locations in conjunction with the Executive Chef. Accommodates customer needs and ensures the quality of food products and service levels.

This seasonal position requires a flexible, creative person who is able to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required. Catered Events employees may be scheduled to work a morning, afternoon or evening function. Employees are scheduled to start as early as 6:30 a.m. and work as late as 2:00 a.m. Catered Events employees may be required to work a 10-hour day or longer. Work schedules are based on the needs of the operation. This seasonal position requires that employees assist
temporarily at other Guest Services locations as needed.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Manage, coordinate, supervise and oversee food preparation and production areas to maintain proper levels of guest satisfaction through training, sanitation, safety, and quality, as well as compliance with Society standards, policies and procedures.
- Responsible for most food production and speed of food delivery with overall quality in mind.
- Coach and train staff for growth and expansion in their areas of expertise, streamline productions, and cross-train staff for future growth.
- Accurately receive and store all deliveries from warehouse and vendors.
- Maintain security of all Society equipment and supplies.
- Secure all equipment and product at end of business day. Ensure that all coolers and freezers are at proper temperatures. Double check that all other equipment is shut off prior to locking the kitchen.
- Responsible for maintaining desired service and financial results, balanced with safety and sanitation.
- Maintain effective communications among various managers and staff to ensure timely delivery and superior quality of products and services.
- Oversee and participate in monthly inventory process.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements and Specifications
The requirements include:
- Must hold or obtain a Food Service Sanitation certificate as required by the city, county, and state within one year of hire.
- One year relevant experience in a food service environment required.
- Detail oriented, good organizational skills, and able to maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Outstanding customer service orientation required.
- Must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks.
The preferred qualifications include:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Cooking school certificate preferred, preferably with food management courses included in the curriculum.
- Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.
