Business Analyst, Information Technology

The Chicago Zoological Society (CZS) is looking for a Business Analyst to join a solid Information Technology team committed to providing world-class service and support to the Society's staff, members and guests. Since the opening of Brookfield Zoo in 1934, the Society has had an international reputation for cutting-edge animal care and wildlife conservation. The Business Analyst will contribute to the continued success of the Zoo, the Society and the IT Department by working closely with internal partners/departments to improve business processes, translate business needs to technical requirements, perform business needs' analyses and periodic report writing.

This position contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society's mission by reviewing, analyzing and evaluating Society systems and business' needs. Assists in the design and implementation of new systems to parallel overall business strategies. Writes detailed description of business needs, program functions as well as policies and procedures required to develop or modify computer programs.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regularly engage with CZS departments and their respective stakeholders to review business processes and workflows. Prepare and maintain documentation and analysis of processes, recommending improvements as appropriate. Assist Senior Manager, Business Integration Projects in evaluation of business requests to determine and recommend appropriate solutions for current and future needs.

Create and update reports as departments request and business needs require. Write and update software source code as necessary and appropriate to implement fixes and changes. Plan for, coordinate and update current systems based on security requirements, business needs and/or vendor requirements. Remain up-to-date on developing technologies and current systems' life-cycle plans in order to evaluate and recommend appropriate solutions and/or replacements. Provide second-tier technical support to Information Services staff and internal clients related to the various enterprise applications, databases and systems within the Society. Other related duties as assigned by Senior Manager, Business Integration Projects or Vice President, Information Technology including, but not limited to, reporting immediately to the Vice President, Information Technology and the Vice President of Human Resources any discovery of inappropriate material on any of the Society's electronic or information technology equipment in accordance with Society policies.

Position Requirements and Specifications

POSITION REQUIREMENT AND SPECIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in computer-related or other relevant field, or equivalent combination of training and experience required. Minimum of two years of experience in systems analysis and/or programming fields required. Experience with software development, specifically with the XML, C#, and object oriented programming concepts required. Experience with programming code documentation, including experience with Microsoft Visio or similar software modeling tools required. Must be familiar with relational database concepts and design. Must be able to understand client requirements and business processes and effectively explain technology to non-technical staff. Must be able to perform a variety of complicated tasks and have a high degree of creativity, self-motivation and self-direction with proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, and meet critical deadlines. Must have good communication skills. Must maintain confidentiality of information and respect client privacy. Must have excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. Experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience.

A valid driver's license is required on date of hire. If you are an Illinois resident, you must possess a valid Illinois driver's license at the time of hire or must obtain one within 90 days of hire. A valid out-of-state driver's license is required at time of hire if the employee is an out-of-state resident.

DESIRABLE/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with Microsoft SQL Server database management tools and Transact-SQL, a plus.

Experience with project planning tools a plus. Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Incumbent must be able to work non-standard hours, holidays, and weekends as required. Must carry cell phone at all times, be available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, and respond as required to provide emergency support.
