Banquet Set-up

Executes instructions specified on Banquet Event Orders(BEOs) regarding the set-up of all events, assisting all Catered Events department and Society staff in the execution of events. Responds to requests and inquiries regarding set-up and/or modifications of events.

*Minimum 18 years of age required.*
*One year banquet/catering experience desired.*
*Valid Drivers License required.*


Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Executes instructions specified on Banquet Event Orders(BEOs) regarding the set-up of all events, assisting all Catered Events department and Society staff in the execution of events. Responds to requests and inquiries regarding set-up and/or modifications of events.
  • Ensures that all meeting and audiovisual set-ups are completed and working properly at least one hour before the start of each event and according to BEOs and/or Floor Plan Specifications. Meets with the client to instruct proper usage and troubleshoots any AV difficulties during the event. Breaks down and properly stores audiovisual equipment in its original location for future use.
  • Assists in running food to and from kitchen/event and bussing tables as needed.
  • Breaks down the set-up and returns supplies to proper storage areas at the conclusion of the event. Maintains all Catered Events storage areas in a clean, orderly, properly labeled manner and in compliance with the policies and requirements of the Life Safety Department. Keeps an adequate, active inventory of setup equipment including tables, chairs, AV equipment, linens, serving ware, etc. to ensure that banquets are properly service. Tracks all audiovisual equipment in the equipment log when it is checked out of the storage area. Inventories AV equipment daily to account for all items before the end of the scheduled shift.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area in accordance with department standards and procedures.
  • Loads needed supplies safely into appropriate vehicles and transports to location of events.
  • Empties trash containers and maintains proper CZS recycling standards.
  • Reports all damaged or missing equipment to supervisor immediately.
  • Responsible for proper opening and closing of the Discovery Center building on a daily basis.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements and Specifications
The requirements for this position include:


  • High School graduate or equivalent combination of training/experience preferred.

  • One-year banquet/catering experience desired.

  • Minimum 18 years of age required.

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple projects and activities preferred.

  • Strong customer service skills required.

  • Must have ability to work well with minimal supervision and to complete and follow through on tasks independently.

  • Must be reliable, neat, highly organized, and accurate.

  • Must be able to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

  • Must be able to work weekends and evenings as required. May be required to work a 10-hour day or longer.

  • Valid driver's license required. Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois license within 90 days of hire. Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents.

  • Spanish fluency a plus, but not required.
