Assistant Manager, Admissions

The Assistant Manager, Admissions (Temporary) assists in the management of the daily operations of the Admissions area ensuring crew members are friendly, approachable, and provide exceptional customer service to zoo guests and generating revenue to contribute to overall revenue goals and financial sustainability. To ensure exceptional customer service, you will also assist in training crew members ensuring all are scheduled for and attend Society-wide customer service training; lead and improve department training; and provide constant observation, evaluation, retraining, coaching, recognition, and corrective action, as appropriate, following established guidelines. Utilizing your prior supervisory experience, you will assist in the preparation of the department staffing plan and daily staffing schedules to support budgetary goals including scheduling for all Admissions locations and executing onsite operating adjustments as needed. You will monitor financial performance of locations and implement corrective action in controllable areas, such as labor, to maintain budgeted expenses. Additionally, you will perform daily management functions to ensure proper cash handling procedures are followed and other managerial tasks related to cash accounting, system auditing and attendance collection in support of programs and procedures established in conjunction with Cash Control, Accounting, and Public Safety Departments. Drawing upon your solid communication skills, you will maintain effective communications among various managers, crew and guests and respond to phone inquiries for advance tickets, rental reservations and general information. Other responsibilities include (1) assisting in managing the Admissions point of sale system, (2) updating departmental procedures, (3) ensuring locations are stocked with necessary equipment and supplies, (4) performing inventories of needed ticket stock and supplies, (5) ensuring all location signs are correct and properly displayed, (6) and performing front-line functions as needed. You will also assure compliance with Society policies and departmental procedures, including Safety policies, Government Job Safety regulations, and applicable labor laws.

Position Requirements and Specifications
This is a temporary position. The minimum starting wage for this position is $14.25 per hour.

The requirements for this position include:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience required or equivalent combination of supervisory experience and direct front-line experience.
  • Must have computer proficiency including hands-on experience with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Strong customer service orientation required.
  • Solid organization and communication skills required.
  • Must be able to interact positively with the public.
  • Experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience.

The desired/preferred qualifications include the following:
  • College coursework in relevant business, management subjects or other relevant subjects preferred.
  • Prior experience with cash handling and working in a customer service environment preferred.
  • Ability to operate a Point of Sale system preferred.
  • Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency.
Additional Information: Admissions employees may be assigned to work the parking or admission booths, Guest Relations buildings, North and South Buggies and internal attraction ticket booths and/or access control areas. It may be necessary to board buses or walk traffic lanes in order to obtain attendance counts and/or collect parking fees. Admissions employees may also be required to temporarily assist at other Guest Services locations as directed, such as food service areas.
