2018 Seasonal Craftsman--Equipment Repair

Now hiring, immediate opening. Starting pay for this position is $10.56 per hour. The Seasonal Craftsman, Equipment Repair contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by performing effective maintenance of the Carousel to ensure safe, efficient, and mechanically sound operation to assure this attraction is safe and available to the public in order to contribute to an overall extraordinary guest experience and to appropriately maintain Society physical assets thus contributing to the Society's overall financial sustainability.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Lead Craftsman and Assistant Lead Craftsman in carrying out daily operational checks associated with the operation of the Carousel attraction. This includes visual inspections of all operating components for proper and safe mechanical operation, engaging attraction in required daily test cycles, ensuring proper fluid levels are maintained, verifying all mechanical elements are receiving the proper rates of lubrication as required, and re-lamping of attraction as needed.
  • Assist Lead Craftsman and Assistant Lead Craftsman in routine disassembly and reassembly of Carousel figures for inspection and required lubrication.
  • Maintain proper and accurate records associated with daily operational checks.
  • Assist Lead Craftsman and Assistant Lead Craftsman in other duties as required.
  • Maintain proper and accurate inventory levels of required operating supplies (such as lubricants and light bulbs) to established par levels.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or (GED) equivalent required.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are required.

  • A valid driver's license is required on date of hire. If you are an Illinois resident, you must possess a valid Illinois driver's license at the time of hire or must obtain one within 90 days of hire.   • One or more of the following licensures may be required: Valid \"C\" or \"B\" (CDL) Driver\u0027s License.

DESIRABLE/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Training/curriculum emphasizing a relevant trade or equivalent combination of training/experience preferred.

  • Post-high school training/coursework in a trade school or university in relevant coursework or minimum one year relevant mechanical experience desirable, but not required.

  • Fundamental knowledge of basic principles involved in carpentry, electricity, and mechanical pumps desired.

  • Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.

Schedule Details
We are seeking individuals that are able to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays in addition to regular week days. The work scheduled typically consists of a rotating shift starting as early as 6:00 a.m. and ending as late as 5:30 p.m. for an average of 25-30 hours per week throughout the year (typically January - December).
