Fabrication and Process Specialist/Estimator Owned by the U.S. Department of Energy and operated by Fermi Research Alliance, LLC, Fermilab is home to the country's premier High Energy Physics program and host to over 1500 physicists, scientists, engineers, and IT professionals from around the world. This is a fabrications/procurement specialist opening, affording an opportunity for growth into a staff position. The successful candidate will serve as a primary customer service contact regarding engineering procurements and fabrication jobs within the AD's Mechanical Support Department's (MSD) Fabrications Group. The AD/MSD Fabrications Group assists with division personnel regarding fabrication, surface processing, and procurement issues. The group provides guidance on the manufacturability of items; helps to estimate scheduling and cost using a thorough understanding of manufacturing technology and techniques; and works closely with the Procurement Department to ensure that the project acquisition requirements are met. The successful candidate will: Serve as the primary contact for the group by interacting with internal customers (including engineers, scientists, technicians, and project managers) regarding procurement status and other issues. Interact regularly with internal technical groups (machine shop, inspection department) and outside vendors to understand capabilities and availability. Have sales or estimating experience in a manufacturing environment, with a background in skilled trades or fabrication processes. Qualifications and Essential Job Functions HS graduate 7+ years of experience A strong candidate will demonstrate: Customer service experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to read blueprints Some fabrication and/or technical knowledge (machining, welding, brazing, cutting, grinding, etc) Some knowledge of CAD software (Autocad, NX, etc.) and/or EDMS software (Teamcenter) is desirable Microsoft Office familiarity Job planning/tracking and estimating experience a plus Physical Activity and Work Conditions Human Factors: Mental Concentration, Sitting, Standing, Visually Demanding PPE: Eye/Face/Foot/Hand Protection Diverse People.
