SUMMARY

Working under the direction of the Controller, performs a variety of accounting duties and responsibilities by executing several financial, cost accounting, and financial reporting while supervising and leading the accounting team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and are intended to represent the principal elements of this position.  They are not totally inclusive and other duties may be assigned. 

 

·         Supervise, direct, and review the work of the accounting staff (including, but not limited to, cash reconciliations, accounts receivable transactions, accounts payable transactions, debt activity, recording of revenue and expenses, etc.).

·         Oversee the daily accounting activities required to maintain the general ledger.

·         Prepare and review monthly journal entries of accounting staff for financial reports or statements.

·         Review general ledger reconciliations on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy of posting.

·         Consolidate financial statements and produce financial reports for monthly senior leadership meetings.

·         Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close.

  • Remain up-to-date on new accounting procedures and their effect on financial statements.

·         Interface with other departments to verify transaction report data and resolve issues.

·         Work with external auditors to ensure a clean and timely year- end audit.

·         Produce cash flow projections.

·         Assist in budgeting process and related analysis.

  • Performs analytical review as needed.

  • Identifies process and internal control weaknesses and work to develop and implement solutions.

·         Develop and implement new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.

·         Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.

  • Work with direct reports to establish performance goals and objectives for each year, monitor and advise on the progress, and enhance the professional development of staff.

  • May also perform other duties as assigned or requested.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages employees in the Accounting Department.  Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this team.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's employment policies and applicable laws. In conjunction with Human Resources, responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors in Accounting or Finance and at least 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing/distribution environment preferred.  Leadership experience of 2+ years required and CPA preferred.

 

OTHER COMPETENCIES/SKILLS REQUIRED

-Superior communication skills - Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.

-Recognizes importance of customer service and displays a high degree of diplomacy and tact in all communications with the customer. 

-Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).

-Excels in making appropriate judgments considering alternative courses of action.

-Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills.

-Deadline oriented - able to work effectively under narrow time limitations to produce accurate results.

-Recognizes importance and maintains high degree of accuracy.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a computer work station and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and adding machine.  This position also requires the employee to occasionally stoop or kneel to file. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to repeatedly adjust focus from paperwork to computer screen and back.
