SUMMARY
The Manager, Patient Care participates in the planning, direction, coordination, implementation, delegation, supervision and evaluation of quality patient care and unit activities. Incorporates nursing theory in the development and implementation of the philosophy, objectives, policy and procedures and patient care standards. Provides effective leadership to employees and provides financial accountability of the unit through effective resource management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Selects, orients, develops and evaluates highly motivated staff capable of successfully performing needed services that comply with the standards of the department, Medical Center, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  2. Coordinates and administers all operational aspects of the unit, department or service line.
  3. Plans, controls, and coordinates the daily activities of the patient care unit.
  4. Coordinates the delivery of nursing care provided to patients on the patient care unit.

  1. Directs and implements staffing schedules and patient assignments.
  2. Develops and maintains a collaborative relationship with Medical Center staff, management, physicians and external contacts to meet unit and Medical Center objectives.
  3. Responsible for the care, maintenance and handling of patient medical records.
  4. Directs, coordinates, promotes and ensures participation in staff education.

    Education and/or Experience
    Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.

    Bachelor's degree in Nursing required for hires after July 1, 2017.
    Associates hired before July 1, 2017 who do not hold a Bachelor's degree in nursing must complete their BSN by July 1, 2020.

    Computer Skills
    Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Meditech required.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    Registered Nurse with a current Illinois License required. CPR certification required.
