Applications Services Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for managing the activities and individuals involved in supporting a variety of business applications by evaluating existing and new software applications against the established needs of the business; ensuring that applications function as intended; establishing related policies and procedures; and resolving usage barriers as needed.

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage employees responsible for maintaining, administering, and generally supporting business applications by providing training, direction, performance management, tools, and resources sufficient to perform their jobs as required; making hiring and termination decisions in accordance with company procedure. 
  • Work closely with internal customers to plan and implement core business applications including first-time implementations and routine and ad hoc upgrades; ensure technical functional objectives are met. 
  • Manage vendor relationships, costs, licensing and related activities; ensure that vendors meet performance expectations and contract provisions. 
  • Develop application back-up and restoration procedures and processes for enterprise installed application software; ensure that support staff is trained and that procedures and processes are followed. 
  • Develop and maintain application strategy as well as application architecture. Manage related projects either in whole or part as required on a project basis. 
  • Support the development, testing, and debugging of applications by ensuring sufficient technical and staffing resources are available and sufficient to meet the needs of the applications and end users. 
  • Establish procedures to support the ongoing monitoring and maintenance of applications, databases, and operating environments to ensure the stability and usability of application environments to minimize user downtime and productivity interruptions. 
  • Ensure that processes for authorizing end user access are established, comply with company policy, are consistent with security best practices, and are adhered to. 
  • Develop methods and processes for responding to internal and external audits requiring disclosure of system administrative processes and procedures; oversee and guide responses and solutions to identified issues; approve implement solutions as appropriate. 
  • Maintain knowledge of current and evolving technologies in order to develop long-term strategic plans for the continued support of existing or future applications and end users. 
  • Manage assigned budgetary responsibility as applies to projects, vendors, and equipment and as approved by manager. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent knowledge, skills, and analytical ability acquired through working. 
  • Seven or more years of experience working with similar responsibilities in progressively more responsible positions. 
  • Ability to lead and manage the work of others. 
  • Ability to develop, manage and execute complex software application projects. 
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and apply that learning to core business application support. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals at all levels of the organization.
