SUMMARY

The Emergency Room Technician II assists nursing and medical staff with the care of Emergency Department patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and according to established procedures.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responds to call lights and assist with activities of daily living such as placing patient on bedpan or assisting to bathroom, eating/drinking, dressing, ambulating, and re-positioning. Completes rounds with patients and responds to Ascom phone, nurse and physician requests to ensure that patient/family needs are met in a timely manner.
  • Monitors, requests, and re-stocks patient rooms, storage and service areas, Ambassadors Desk and/or Triage with supplies, ensuring adequate levels are maintained. Requests and stores approved supplies and linens according to established procedures. Checks assigned daily carts and signs off. Empties and/or replace waste receptacles/needle bins.
  • Provides explanations of and perform procedures (e.g. foley insertion and removal, straight cath., wound care and dressing changes, Intravenous insertion, blood draws and removal, administration of enemas and specimen collection).
  • Completes and documents patient care activities including: Triage Assessments into Meditech, ADL, vital signs, weights, and procedure/treatments that were performed.
  • Assists Physicians/Mid-level providers with suturing, simple dressings, wound cleansing, post molds set up, and other procedural set ups as directed.
  • Attaches patient to cardiac monitors as appropriate. Performs Urine human chronic gonadotropin (HCG) screenings, CPR and post-mortem care as directed. Takes routine vital signs (BP, temperature, pulse, pulse ox, and respirations), and ensures 12 lead electrocardiogram (EKG) is done within specified time frame and according to policy and procedures.
  • Monitors and documents intake (food, water, juices, lunches, etc.) and output (urine, bowel movements, emesis, etc.) of patients. Reports any changes in these measurements to RN.
  • Performs unit support duties including answering and relaying telephone calls at Emergency Department desk. Other support duties include retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, and instruments, transporting patients to and from departments, cleaning rooms, performing order entry as needed.
  • Assists Manager in training new staff on standard procedures as directed.

    Education and/or Experience
    High School diploma or GED and Completion of Certified Nursing Assistant program are required. Minimum one year of work experience in a health care environment is required.

    Computer Skills
    Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Meditech.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Certified Nursing Assistant or equivalent (e.g. EMT- Paramedic certification) required. CPR Certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification desired.
