SUMMARY

The Coordinator, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provides education, supervision and performance improvement monitoring of pre-hospital care provided by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and base station personnel functioning in the Presence Health EMS System. Acts as a liaison between the Hospital and outside agencies relevant to Emergency Preparedness activities, and helps to coordinate those functions within the Hospital and System. Provides education and support to Hospital and System staff relevant to Emergency Preparedness activities to include training on decontamination and response to weapons of mass destruction (WMD).



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Upholds and administers the policies and procedures of the Presence Health Emergency Medical Services System. Organizes, implements and evaluates EMS activities: education, supervision and performance improvement monitoring.
  • Performs as an Emergency Communication Registered Nurse (ECRN) in the Presence Health EMS System by operation of telemetry and direction of paramedics/EMTs.
  • Participates in the planning, development and implementation of pre-hospital care provider and ECRN continuing education.
  • Updates the Hospital's plan for emergency preparedness and participates in system-wide emergency preparedness activities. Assists with the coordination of semi-annual drills and evaluates performance and processes relevant to emergency preparedness activities.
  • Evaluates the performance of pre-hospital care and base station personnel and provides assessments to management as required. Investigates complaints regarding pre-hospital care and radio direction, documents such investigations and provides feedback as indicated.

    Education and/or Experience

    Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Minimum one year of nursing experience required.

    If hired before March, 2015, graduate of paramedic program with 3 years of emergency experience also meets requirements.

    Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Previous experience in emergency nursing, pre-hospital or as an Emergency Communications Registered Nurse preferred. Teaching or group facilitation experience preferred.

    Computer Skills

    Experience in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    Public Private Partnership (PPP) proficiency preferred.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    If a Registered Nurse, a current Illinois License required. Illinois licensed EMT-Paramedic required if hired prior to March, 2015. Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) are required unit specific certifications.

    Emergency Communications Registered Nurse preferred. Certification in area of specialty preferred.
