The advocate is responsible for promoting a child focused, supporting environment at the Children's Advocacy Center by providing crisis support, system information, and community resources for children and their families who participate in an investigation of child abuse or for children who have witnessed traumatic and violent crime through the life of the case. Victim support and advocacy is integral and fundamental to the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) response as well as the well-being of the child and non-offending family members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide forensic interviews of children ages 3-17.

Respond to after-hours requests for emergency response and maintain on call availability as requested by Program Supervisor.

Evaluate and keep current parent and community resource information, distribute information to families as needed, and maintain a resource directory that will assist child victims and their families. Administer client surveys, including but not limited to Outcome Measurement Surveys (OMS).

Comply with all billing and grant requirements that fund the CAC and the advocacy positions, including but not limited to entering billing data and preparing service delivery documentation.

Attend and participate in staff development trainings as provided to enhance and maintain skills. Advocates must participate in ongoing education in the field of victim advocacy and child maltreatment consisting of a minimum of eight contact hours every two years.

Maintain processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, organization and professionalism in paperwork and documentation, including billing data and service delivery documentation.

Promote a multidisciplinary approach to investigations by providing assistance to all team review processes as available, mediating conflict among MDT members, and facilitating discussion among team members related to the clients and family's needs and concerns.

Provide court advocacy to children and non-offending family members, including court education, case status updates, court accompaniment and support, court tours, trail preparation, and assistance with victim impact statements.

Assists clients with accessing entitlements such as victim compensation, U-Visa, disability compensations, or other entitlement that would support the client's care and rehabilitation as needed.

Provides assessment and linkage to trauma informed mental health counseling, and specialized medical treatment, and assists with procuring concrete services (housing, protective orders, domestic violence intervention, food, transportation, public assistance, etc.)

Participate in case review to communicate and discuss the unique needs of the child and family and the associated support services planning, ensure the seamless coordination of services, and ensure the child and families concerns are heard and addressed.

Ensure case collaboration among MDT members though information sharing and facilitation of pre and post forensic interview meetings.

Participate in active outreach and follow-up with families beyond the initial assessment and crisis response, including ongoing contact regarding client needs and the investigation/prosecution, including updates on case status and progress.

Implement crisis assessments and other intervention tools that are used to assess risk and safety. Asses for individual needs of the child and non-offending family members to ensure needs are met.

Provide crisis counseling and trauma-informed support to children and their families who are receiving services from the CAC.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

Master's Degree in social work, counseling, or psychology preferred. Licensure preferred (LPC, LCPC, LSW, LCSW). Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, or a related field with one to three years of experience in the provision of direct patient services in a social service or mental health setting and specialized advanced knowledge and training in the field of child abuse and/or trauma required.

Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Advocates are required to have complete a minimum of 24 hours of specialized training in the following areas within 6 months of hire:

a. Dynamics of abuse,

b. Trauma-informed services,

c. Crisis assessment and intervention,

d. Risk assessment and safety planning,

e. Professional ethics and boundaries,

f. Understanding the coordinated multidisciplinary response,

g. Assistance in accessing/obtaining victims' rights as outlined by law,

h. Court education, support and accompaniment.

i. Assistance with access to treatment and other services, including protective orders, housing, public assistance, domestic violence intervention, transportation, financial assistance, interpreters, among others as determined for individual clients.

Computer Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, and Excel).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid driver's license, proof of automobile insurance and access to transportation may be required.
