The Director of Nursing will have direct accountability over Women's' Services and must have a strong demonstrated track record in OB/GYN services. Additionally this role will be accountable for other nursing and ancillary departments.

The Director, Nursing directs the overall operations of acute Nursing Services. Plans, administers and evaluates the twenty-four hour operation of nursing departments. The position provides leadership and role modeling for delivery of safe, effective and efficient patient care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees and directs unit based personnel to ensure the daily delivery of safe, effective and efficient patient care. Serves as a resource and role model to the staff; facilitates an atmosphere for staff growth and recognition. Develops and maintains current policies/procedures.
  • Oversees staff in planning and implementing delivery of patient care according to identified patient needs and assists medical staff in communicating and coordinating patient care. Utilizes knowledge and skills of unit and department resource personnel in planning and implementing care and resolving complex patient care problems. Coordinates development and implementation of Care Guidelines and Order Sets.
  • Assesses and evaluates staffing patterns for proper utilization of personnel in relation to patient acuity levels and approves appropriate work and time off schedules. Monitors the effectiveness of the staffing plan for the patients and staff regularly.
  • Determines appropriate alternative methods in delivery of care in cooperation with the Chief Nurse Executive and/or department resource personnel. Implements approved changes in patient care practices.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work teams by involving staff to participate in decision making. Assists in developing and presenting in-service education programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Nursing or associated nursing theory required. Minimum five years of recent clinical nursing experience plus three years of project leadership experience which includes implementation of strategic initiatives, managing a complex budget, analytical and systems thinking skills to resolve complex issues and problems is required.

Master's degree in Nursing preferred. Supervisory or managerial experience preferred.

Leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively and concisely with a wide variety of staff, patients, community residents, outside agencies and organizations.

Computer Skills

Basic computer knowledge, including Excel and Word required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Registered Nurse with a current Illinois License required. CPR certification required.
