SUMMARY

The Recreation Therapist designs and utilizes recreational activities, sports, and interactions to meet the needs and interests of individuals with physical, cognitive, or emotional impairments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains department files and records.

Organizes and conducts in-service training of other staff members, review their assessments and program goals and consult with them on selected cases.

Supervises volunteers and codes involved in the Recreational Therapy Program. Trains student interns and aids in techniques of recreational therapy and assist in their supervision and evaluation.

Assists patients with activity sign-up and ensures a doctor's order is written for out of hospital activities.

Orders supplies needed for activities, within budget parameters, and assists in the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

Makes arrangements for transportation.

Makes arrangements for community re-entry out-trips. Contacts community resources to speak and/or entertain.

Maintains established department/hospital policies, procedures, directives, performance improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate to this position.

Documents patients' participations and progress in recreational therapy.

Regulates and adjusts content of programs in accordance with patients' capabilities, needs and interests.

Evaluates assigned patients through interviews and observation.

Plans, organizes and implements recreational activities and community re-entry out-trips to meet patients capabilities, needs and interests.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy required.

One years of experience as a Recreation Therapist preferred.

Computer Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Candidates must hold certification as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist CTRS.
