SUMMARY

The Patient Care Tech II assists in providing high quality emergency care for patients of all age groups with both acute and chronic health problems. The care is performed by and in collaboration with the Registered Nurses and Emergency Physicians of the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department is a high volume, high acuity, and high stress environment that requires maturity and a strong coping mechanism. The employee must be able to prioritize projects and workload on a daily basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Keeps the department organized by performing cleaning and stocking duties and ordering supplies as necessary.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff by preparing patients for surgery and assisting during various procedures.
  • Assists in treating the patient by collaborating with the RN and MD to provide oral medications for fevers, nebulize albuterol, placement of peripheral IV caths, urinary caths and temporary orthopedic devices.
  • Assists in obtaining accurate diagnostic data by obtaining vital signs, venous blood samples, EKGs and placing patients on non-invasive monitoring equipment.
  • Responds to patient's immediate need for evaluation by performing and documenting a triage assessment.

    Education and/or Experience

    High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

    Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

    Computer Skills

    Meditech software. Equipment used in the performance of this job include EKGs, Pulse Ox Monitors, IV Pumps Carts, Glucometers, and Blood Tubes.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    EMT-P license required. CPR certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Trauma (PHTLS) certifications preferred
