SUMMARY

The EKG Technician II performs patient monitoring in a variety of cardiac diagnostic tests.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs cardiac diagnostic tests including electrocardiographs (EKG), Holter monitoring, cardiac event recorder monitoring, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.
  • Scans Holter monitor recording. Identifies, evaluates and assesses cardiac arrhythmia, signs and symptoms of myocardial infarction and its manifestation on electrocardiogram and pacemaker function evaluation.
  • Performs EKG processing software troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Ensures all equipment is prepared to perform procedures. Cleans and performs minor adjustments on equipment between each procedure. Refers difficult and non-routine equipment problems to designated person.
  • Completes billing procedure and maintains accurate records and technical rotations for all exams. Obtains necessary information for the referring physician's billing purposes. Records information including history sheets and requisitions.
  • Utilizes diagnostic testing procedures on an electrocardiograph (EKG), along with a variety of techniques, equipment, and computer displays to perform testing.


  • Interviews patients to obtain vital statistics and medical history. Documents results in patients' records.


  • Determines the significance of all EKG waveforms that are visualized through retrospective analysis, superimposition scanning and continuous real-time data.
  • Provides cardiologist with an individualized report consisting of analysis of patient EKG rhythm, correlation of patient symptoms with rhythm disturbances, and quantitative categorization of all ectopic activity.
  • Participates in performance improvement data collection, preparation of patient information logs, department statistics, and other duties related to medical record storage, processing, and retrieval. Ensures that test reports are dictated by the Cardiologist in a timely manner.
  • Participates in the orientation of staff and assists other staff members as needed in both technical and clerical duties.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and/or Experience

    High school diploma or GED required. Successful completion of a course in EKG interpretation is required. Minimum two years of relevant experience required.

    Computer Skills

    Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Certification as a Cardiovascular Technologist (CCT) or equivalent experience required. CPR certification required.

    Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within one year preferred.
