SUMMARY

The Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Coordinator facilitates a coordinated approach in the investigation of child abuse and neglect, working closely with law enforcement, child protective services, the State's Attorney's Office, medical professionals, mental health professionals, victim advocates, and various other professionals who may be involved during the course of child abuse/neglect investigations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • May provide advocacy services and/or forensic interviews.
  • Work closely with the CAC Program Director and members of the multidisciplinary teams to review and update team procedures and protocol.
  • Ensure that the MDT unit model approach is carried though on all decision making regarding cases and in the best interest of the child.
  • Regularly assess training needs of the MDT and implement those trainings, including cultural diversity and trauma informed care. The MDT Coordinator will work with the State Wide MDT Coordinator to implement those trainings.
  • Be familiar with the NCA Standards for Accreditation for the MDT and case review and provide leadership in maintaining the standards.
  • Prepare and distribute agendas for the MDT, summarize decision and actions plans of the MDT.
  • Improve communication and provide case coordination between medical providers, child welfare investigators, and criminal investigators. Work with the CAC Program Director to maintain relationships and MOUs with medical providers in the services area and coordinate with other medical experts when further evaluation is warranted.
  • Provide case coordination with law enforcement, child protective services, and medical providers when reports of serious injuries of children under 3 are made (cuts, welts, bruises, internal injuries, bone fractures, head trauma).
  • Assist with coordination and facilitation of the multidisciplinary case review for active child abuse and neglect investigations, including suspicious child deaths (as requested).
  • Promote improved communication, coordination, and accountability across agency lines, facilitate healthy relationships between the MDT, and work to resolve conflicts among the team when they arise.
  • Review and document the receipt of DCFS and Law enforcement referrals and coordinate efforts between law enforcement, DCFS, the State's Attorney's Office, and clients to schedule forensic interviews of children per the current county protocol.
  • Promote the utilization of the Child Advocacy Center in accordance with team protocol per the Children's Advocacy Center Act.
  • Foster open and positive relationships with the MDT, including law enforcement, the Department of Children and Family Services, and prosecutors while promoting best practices for child abuse investigation and treatment.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of overall child protection and legal systems. Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the MDT. Excellent written and verbal communication, computer, mediation, and facilitation a must.

    Education and/or Experience

    Master's Degree in a human services field or a bachelor's degree with a minimum of two to three years of law enforcement or child protection investigation experience required.

    Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred.

    Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
