SUMMARY

The Monitor Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides nursing staff or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrates ability to interpret, communicate, and document patient rhythm information correctly and takes the proper action by following the policy and protocols in place.
  • Evaluates patient responses to all interventions, and anticipates patient care problems as emergent rhythm changes.
  • Completes monitor logs and rhythm analysis documentation. Obtains EKG strips from telemetry patients at least once per shift and captures any changes in rhythm or rate of ecotype.
  • Evaluates patient responses to all interventions, and anticipates patient care problems as emergent rhythm changes.
  • Demonstrates competence in the use of the monitoring equipment. Performs all operational functions to maintain the workstation monitor equipment. Monitors and maintains the telemetry equipment, including batteries and paper supplies.

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or GED required. Training program in arrhythmia recognition required within two months of hire.

Computer Skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
